The Wichita school district and portions of the Derby, Haysville, and Maize school districts serve the city of Wichita. There are 8 public high schools within Wichita (Wichita High School East, Wichita Heights High School, Wichita Southeast High School, Wichita High School North, Wichita High School West, Wichita High School Northwest, Wichita High School Northeast Magnet, Wichita High School South). Wichita Haysville Campus High School is located within Wichita, but serves as a High School of Haysville. Circle High School is located in Towanda, but takes students from Northeastern Wichita.
There are also 4 private schools (Bishop Carroll Catholic High School, The Independent School, Kapaun Mt. Carmel Catholic High School, and Wichita Collegiate School).
Wichita State University is one of six state universities that is governed by the Kansas Board of Regents. This university offers over 60 undergraduate degree programs in more than 200 areas of study in six undergraduate colleges: W. Frank Barton School of Business, College of Education, College of Engineering, College of Fine Arts, College of Health Professions, and Fairmount College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. The Graduate School offers an extensive program including 44 master's degrees in more than 100 areas and a specialist in education degree. It offers doctoral degrees in applied mathematics; chemistry; communicative disorders and sciences; psychology; educational administration; and aerospace, electrical, industrial, and mechanical engineering.
Other colleges and universities include Friends University, Newman University, Wichita Area Technical College, Wichita Technical Institute, Butler Community College, University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita, Cowley County Community College, University of Pheonix-Wichita Campus, Baker University, Tabor College, Southwestern College-Wichita Kansas, and several McConnell AFB based colleges and universities.
